One of the most requested topics out of 30 years of teaching is the topic " how to gain speed on the guitar " in order to play fast runs. In this tutorial I will have a realistic and sustainable look on this topic. I will focus especially on the tasks which are needed on jazz and smooth jazz guitar playing techniques. So I will show you some exercises for patterns, modes in combination with ear training and theory. You can do all those tasks at the same time. This is the only possibility to save some time. This tutorial is a " Must Have " for any aspiring jazz guitar player. If you want to download the technical exercises I am talking about please follow the links below : If you need any further professional advice on this topic please book a privat skype meeting :

Hey Dave - yes I noticed during the recording of this video that the volume of the voice was a bit low. I will make the correction from the next video on.

Here I show you 3 pro blues guitar double stop licks which work along with the chord progression G7 / C7. The licks contain a lot of let-ring effects and follow the chords of this progression. This makes them sound really great and they can give the spice for your sophisticated blues guitar solo. Please pay close attention to all my instructions to get the maximum benefit out of this tutorial. Hey Otman, I sorry to hear that but it is a common problem of many students. The main reason for not reaching the nessessary speed is in fact the lack of continous technical practicing which is normal when one has a job, a familly and other things to do. But there is also a softer approach on playing kind of fast and smooth. I will make a tutorial about this. But if you really want to do those runs - then do those exercises you said - but more then a month. It has to be a daily routine. So figure out how much time you can invest daily into that and then just start it slow. There is no reason for stress. Just do the exercises. I probably also will make a tutorial about that.

Hey JazzJoop - that's nice it's important for the joy of playing that you have one or more guitars which you really love. This motivates more to practice and to play a lot.

Hey Anthony, thanks for your feedback. I use a AXE FX III effect processor for most recordings in the studio. But you can also use the FM3 - same quality. Or you can use any digital stereo delay. There I use a ping pong delay set on the quarter note with feedback on 50% and a mix level around 7%. I hope that helps.

Here you can learn a wonderful sweet rock guitar ballad arpeggio riff. It works with open strings and sounds really nice and open. Beside the riff I will give you some advice on how to make a melodic solo and how to make variations on the melody and also to add some counterpoint ideas. Timing and Time Control are very important in jazz guitar. In this tutorial I show you with a very simple example of 2 notes how you can stretch the timing of a simple melodic motive by moving around the timing points with different methods which I show you here in this tutorial. It is very important that you practice everything with your feet on 2 and 4. Only if you can do that you can master the timing and timing stretch. This tutorial is a " must have " for any jazz guitar player. Hey Mick, thanks for your nice feedback and I am really glad I could bring you back on your guitar journey. It's all about enjoying the journey not always seeing the final goal. I wish my teacher would have told me that and that's why I really try to teach everybody and any level to always enjoy the journey - that's the main goal.

From all bands from the Fusion area from the 90's I love Tribal Tech most. Scott Henderson the guitar player has his roots in blues and when you listen to him he has a lot of SRV influence. From my point of view one should not pull away the electric guitar from it's roots which is in fact " blues " . Here are nice liveshow that you can have a listen to the guys.

Hey Otman, yes it's a bit of a finger exercise but in fact a wonderful melody. Thanks for the tip - i'll check those versions out
