This is a cinematic rock guitar tune which I recorded spontanious right after the shooting to this tutorial here : I really love all types of cinematic rock guitar sounds but they only work with a lot of delay effects - so the playing has to be melodic and precise. I will work this tune more out I guess because I love the vibe of this song a lot.

Even in the chat of my morning coffee game which I am playing people start to attack eachother about nothing. Thats something I don't want to see here. Respect and tolerance have to be first even if you don't agree with something somebody posted. If everybody follows that simple rule then all will be fine and you guys can communicate with eachother. Blogs For the blogs there is the same thing. The only difference is that you have your own account and your own profile and your own link and this area is more private and only for premium members. When it comes to problems and questions about your own guitar journey I will be reading your entries and give you some advice which tutorials are there to help you on your personal current standing on your guitar journey and of course I enjoy knowing more about you guys - so any kind of life stories with your guitar is most welcome there. Here's a really great live performance by Steve Morse. There you can really watch his picking technique which switches easy between different picking techniques and speeds. I am working at similar stuff at the moment after going for legato playing for many years.

Here I show you some ideas on how to play a classical cinematic rock guitar riff. The first version uses the arpeggio's of the chords played with sweep and palm muting technique which in fact is a bit demanding. The 2nd version uses easy power chords with a modern cinematic touch. Yeah in fact " stay cool " is an important thing in jazz guitar

Yes a lot of hard work is required to get to this playing level. I can tell - because I also went this road from the age of 20 - aprox. 30 with 10 - 16 hours daily. I think you can only do that on a sustainable level when you are young and this time defines more or less what kind of player you become. Matteo Mancuso had the great advantage that his dad is also a professional jazz guitar player. They jammed together at NAMM. So with his dad as a great influence he got his level when he was still very young. And the other thing is the tools which help you on this way. Today you have so much things which support you in your playing. When I started you still could get really bad guitars in store - and today most guitars are very good even on a low price level due to modern production methods... and and and.... But at the end of the day it does not matter where we are on our journey on guitar. It matters if we are part of the music we are at the moment playing with all the background where we came from. That's what matters in music. I found out that the hard way - that discipline and hard practing is one thing but if you forget the other thing it's worth nothing. When I personally found out I stopped the extended practicing and went to normal levels... and I think my music is way better than back then.

I have been reviewing and listening to the new young generation of guitar players who really take the way of guitar playing to a new level. These are of course Matteo Mancuso, Josh Meader from the jazz fraction, Max Ostro from the metal and shredding fraction and Tim Hanson and Ichika Nito from the I would call new age - metal fraction. He is now my impression after my analysis : Matteo Mancuso is of course outstanding with his finger picking technique with 3 picking fingers which is different from the regular classical or flamenco finger picking where you normally just use 2 fingers for fast runs. The 3 finger technique has the great advantage that you can do light-speed 6tol runs with arpeggios or 3 string skipping runs which he is using quite often. Beside that he is using the legato technique with the damper as taken from Guthrie Govan or also Stanley Jordan. The big advantage using this damper is that tapping gets way more effortless then without. This gives you the opportunity to make light speed fast tapping runs and also make polyphonic figures because you don't need to take care of the damping of the strings once you tapped them. Josh Meader is als pretty much influenced by Guthrie Govan by adding these kind of runs to his regular ultra fast picking technique. Josh is using chicken picking ( pick and fingers ) for chords and polyphonic figures. Max Ostro is pretty much the modern clone of Paul Gilbert - just on a more accurat and sophisticated way with some more modern influences which was not available back in the time of Paul Gilbert. Tim Henson is very new and fresh the way he composes music and understands the way he redefines the rhythm work of the guitar. I guess he was much influenced by Dubstep and Skrillex in specific because the way he fractions rhythm and music in an unpredictable way reminds me a lot of the style of Skrillex. He also uses 5tol's quite a lot and vocoder type effects on guitar sounds which make the guitar sound like a modern synth in many spots. He is also using tapping to expand chords in a polyphonic way. Ichika Nito is very interesting too and I am not sure who was first. Him or Tim Henson the way they expand chords with tapping. Ichika is more accurate on this technique and is able to take it up to the really high fret numbers to create a really asiatic type of sound on chords. He is extremely fast at switching between normal finger picking and the tapping. The high positions help to be there in time. The summery of this review is that the new generation of guitar players are taking the guitar to a new level by using the great stuff from the existing players and expanding it with tapping, special techniques and new sound approaches to take it to a modern level. I would compare it maybe with tennis. The players back in the 70's were also great players but they didn't have the equipement to hit the ball so hard and fast as with modern rackets. Same here - but I can also tell that all of these guys have to play at least 6 hours daily to withhold this playing level. The really amazing thing is that all these guys show absolut no weakness on any run. Well in fact I saw a performance of Matteo Mancuso live at NAMM from this year with his trio - and there he showed really slight weak spots - very slight and that is good. We all only cook with water and are humans.
