Hey guys, already one month over Here are now the news of Oct. 24. Guitar Academy News I have redesigned the Academy a bit and now the list of the guitar courses is highlighted on the page. I strongly recommend to check out the new video to optimize your learning process. After a one year period where I fill the missing topics in the advanced section I will now start to focus on shorter lessons where students have a chance to fullfil the task in 1-2 weeks till a next tutorial of a specific genre or topic gets release. I want to engage students to really follow the topics which are coming and to enter into a on-going learning process. I also want to engage students to interact more with eachother and to build a cool guitar students community. There are many projects which are still ready to be released once this community starts to work. Our motto would be something like : " I know it's hard, but it's fun ! Here's a new blog entry related to my search for proper sound and mic settings - this time it's the search for a modern emotional jazz guitar sound :

Emotional Ambient Jazz Guitar Sound I always loved jazzmusic which highlight a spacy and personal way on improvisation - such as the unique sound of Miles Davis or the great piano style of Lyle David Mays ( Pat Metheny Group ) or Bill Evans. Now here comes the problem - the traditional jazz guitar sound does not have that dynamic possibilities to display that range of emotions in the tone itself and if you take the tone too much into blues guitar then you sound like blues guitar. It should be something in between those 2 types of sound and have an emotional deepness in the sound such as a saxophon style of David Sandborn or Dave Coz. You can get these features when you don't cut the high frequencies in your sound and for the emotional bottom you highlight the bass frequencies either with the EQ or with the " Fat " setting if your amp has that. For a cool and smooth jazz guitar sound it is also disturbing if your high frequencies are too dominant but to get the emotional bandwidth you need them. So how to solve this problem ? One solution would be to use a compressor or a limiter to cut those frequencies but I found a better solution : You search for the optimal setting with the " Presence " function. To give the sound a blues crunch effect I added some " Tube Saturation to it " Here you can see the settings ( BTW - the many hairs you see is Rambo my cat ) to make is sound more modern I have added instead of the classic " Spring Reverb " and volumetric ambient reverb with the " Plex Delay " and here are 2 sound examples - one is my jazz guitar sound now and the second one is my smooth jazz guitar sound with more distortion and more tube saturation. jazzsounds.mp3

I have started a new strategy in the creation of new tutorials a few days ago. After a longer phase now of just creating tutorials to fill up the missing parts here in the academy and to have all done in a complete manner I will now shift to a new strategy which way smaller amounts of learning material but easy to follow tutorials. I have noticed in the past 2 years in teaching that many students are overwhelmed with the mass of content available and therefore had problems keeping up the motivation to check new material because they felt they were too able to fulfill the tasks which were already given. That's not optimal for motivation and for the continuation of regular playing and studying. So now since all advanced topics are covered here in the academy I can go back to smaller tutorials which are fun and engaging and also have a learning effect for all levels. The best way of learning is keep up the fun and motivation and then always to add some content which is new and to adapt it into the already existing playing abilities.
