  1. Hey Bryan, welcome here in the HPCrazy Guitar Academy. That's nice that you love this site - and in fact I want to make the jazz department really a high quality source for jazz guitar fans - even it's not so popular on YouTube. I added some chords which work with the melody in this PDF - not too easy to grab but the melody defines that you can not take regular chords. La Vie En Rose ( Edith Piaf ).pdf
  2. Here you can learn the rhythm guitar of Eric Clapton's tune " Old Love '' and I will share some insight on how to play the typical slow hand guitar style which made Eric Clapton the guitar player most of us know. Here you can download the files associated to this tutorial :

  5. Here's now the August 23 newsletter : Blues Last month we were checking out all that is needed to know about basic blues guitar riffs. Now this month you can take it a step further and go to the advanced blues guitar riffs. If you did the basic blues guitar riffs it should not be a huge problem to fulfill the task on this tutorial here : This month was the month of Chicago Blues Guitar Player - Hubert Sumlin. A member requested to do a tutorial about Chicago Blues guitar players. I tried to find a common feature which they have and in fact a lot of blues guitar players play with finger picking which is quite a different technique to the usual techniques but in fact the fingerpicking technique makes the sound of those early guys like Albert Collins, Johnny Guitar Watson, Magic Sam, Jimmy Reed and others. Rock N Roll If you want to play a solid and professional sounding rock n roll guitar then the Chuck Berry Style tutorial is all you need to know to fulfill the task. I joined a professional rock n roll band at the beginning of my career with that knowledge and it was enough to be on tour for 2 years. Rock Also in the rock guitar genre this was the month of the advanced rock riff tutorial. If you have gone through the basic rock guitar riff tutorial you might be hungry and ready for the advanced rock guitar riff tutorial. If you love Drop D rock guitar riffs then this one is for you. It's easy to play and sounds great. Jazz This was the month of jazz guitar improvisation with 2 great tutorials. If you love the tune " Sunny " but you have your difficulties with improvisation then this tutorial shall help you to get some cool professional sounding chops together which are still in the range of an intermediate smooth jazz guitar player. Jazz Blues is in fact a very important and central thing in jazz guitar improvisation. So it makes sense to really work out the jazz blues in detail and to always add new things and ideas to it. So here are some easy chops for jazz guitar fans to get more into jazz blues guitar improvisation. Free Member Download One of the most iconic guitar solos in pop and rock history is probably the solo of Eddie Van Halen in Michael Jackson's song " Beat It ". To understand its value you must understand the time when this song was recorded. Thriller was produced by the team around Quincy Jones which contained the best musicians of that time which produced most of the hit records of that time. Steve Lukather was a constant member of this team and his guitar work was on many hit records of that time. Out of this time later the band " Toto " got formed because they wanted to be more than just studio musicians. When Triller got recorded Eddie Van Halen was the hottest guitar player on the entire scene so Quincy Jones asked him to do the solo on " Beat It ". And so he did. Any other guitar player who later joined Micheal Jackons band needed to be able to play that specific solo. Jennifer Baten was a long time constant team member since Micheal Jackson prefered female guitar players and she was the only guitar player at the audition who was able to play that solo note by note. Shortly before Micheal Jackson died it was Orianthi who was able to play that solo and got the job. So it is worth having a look at this solo even though it's probably too hard for many players out there. I never tried it because I am not into Eddie Van Halen style and you need to have those skills to master that solo. But however this solo is worth a look and to give it a try. To download the file for free you need to hit the " Join " Button of the Guitar Students Club. Concerts On monday I will do my last piano concert in the small church of Seegräben in Switzerland. If you are nearby you might want to pop into the concert. After that concert I will continue the concerts with piano and guitar. The concert will also be broadcasted live. If you love it please support it with a donation. I will start with the HPCrazy Guitar Nights again. I thought I would make it in a bar in Zürich but the conditions there did not feel right to me and so I will continue to search for possibilities. One idea is to make it at a small venue here in Egg ZH in Switzerland and invite other players and my students to join and to start to have a great Guitar Community feeling once a month. I need the contribution of helpers which can be my students or other volonteers. We will see what comes but in the meanwhile I just make them as livestream from the HPCrazy Studio's. The first one will be on Sept. 22th. More information will come - which topic, which guitar, which venue and so on.... but if you love the idea you can support it with a donation here. New Song Generel Information During the summer break there was not so much going on. This is my first Guitar Night after a long break. I have been preparing intensively. This included getting to know my new concert guitar and adapting my playing technique to the sound characteristics of this instrument, but also a new interpretation of pieces from the jazz and blues genres. The theme of this first Guitar Night is : Pure Jazz & Blues. For guitar freaks among you. I plan to do most of the program with a simple sound ( Fender Deluxe Amp with and without analog delay and spring reverb ) without any other technical aids ( backing tracks or loopers ). It's an experiment, because I don't know if such a program is entertaining at all. Since I'm still in the experimental phase, the concert will only take place as a livestream. 10. Yeah I always enjoy to learn more about guitar playing. As I am always saying - the journey never ends.
  11. So here we are - was not so easy because these players did not have so much in common execpt that they are round from the same time and genre. You guys are free to post a new request. Sometimes it takes a moment till I can proceed.
  12. Here I talk about the finger picking blues guitar style of Hubert Sumlin. You can see this or similar techniques on many other blues guitar players such as Albert Collins, Johnny Guitar Watson, Magic Sam, Jimmy Reed and others. You can download the files associated to this tutorial :

  14. I wanted to give an update here : I was held back to get familiar with Mrs. Blue for a while since I needed a replacement of a screw on the tremolo system and it took quite a while till I got the original from PRS but since then I started to get to know this guitar. How does this work ? I go through sounds, pickup settings and playing techniques and see how the guitar reacts and can display the tone and what is needed in the playing technique to express the maximum bandwidth of the sound possibilities. The journey still did not end but what I can already say is that this guitar is beyond anything I ever experienced and it is really able to push creative possibilities to a whole new level and it is really fun and inspirational. I am still suffering from the hole in my cash pocket since the price was way beyond too but in fact this guitar was worth every cent I spent. Here you can hear how great this guitar can sound. This is just the natural sound of the guitar with a tube preamp and an ambient reverb.
  15. Here a spontanious improvisation as a contribution to " Peace For The World "
  16. Ok - i'll go for this one here. Love it. but since this is not a typical Chicago Blues with the mid tempo shuffle I'll also talk about this type of blues here. What is interesting that the majority of the players I checked play with there thumb and fingerpicking.
  17. Well it's really a cool tune and I thought It's possible. But once you listen nearer to it you find that he is doing something really wild and that's exactly the alternate picking with the thumb + the rest. I guess that's why this one tune influenced so many players after him. It's really cool but impossible to play if you are not exactly into that playing style.
  18. I checked it out today - and got somewhere but one thing I could not manage to do because it's outside my skills of playing. Alternate picking with the thumb - thats probably why there are not many guys around who could manage to do this boogie. Check out this tutorial - this guy is able to play it pretty original and he gave me the hint with the alternate picking of the thumb. Thats in fact a wild technique I never tried before and I can tell I will not learn this on the fly. So I must pass on this....
  19. Was quite busy in the past 2 weeks - checking it out now.... it's basicly not so hard but the speed makes the hard part of it
