I have always been a huge fan of Steve Vai. For me is still the unchallenged number one rock guitar player. It's about time to make it to make a tutorial about his types of instrumental rock ballads. They often come along in the measure of 6/8. I created a track in the key of E minor in the measure of 6/8 and in this tutorial I show you how the rhythm guitar is played and after that very short introduction to 6/8 rhythm guitar I going to give you some easy going instructions how to create great rock balade lead sounds and how to create those long notes which make them so great. The really great feature of Steve Vai’s guitar playing is it absolute perfect tone control in every situation of lead guitar. I give you some insight how you can work with slight pinch harmonics and slipping the tone into overtones and to create great long notes with your lead guitar. So this tutorial doesn't really talk about how to do the typical Steve Vai guitar licks. It’s more about tone control and how you can control with your tone with your vibrato, your bendings and the distortion settings in combination with pinch harmonics. Somebody recommend this song to me and wanted to know if I can do a tutorial about it so I analyzed this song and wanted to find out why became so popular even though there is no official recording available on YouTube. There are three things which make the magic of this song. First of all to Form. Slow Blues ( The Jack Style ) Here you can learn a Slow Blues in the style of “ The Jack “ by ACDC. This is a blues with 60 BPM and in the key of E. First I going to show you the chords and the chord riff which is played and which make the signature sound of this Blues and then I going to show you a simple improvisation with the Question - Answer - Resolution “ concept. The concept works like this : You first play a motive which represents the question then play It again. After that you play the answer then play the question again and at the end comes the resolution. This is the improvisation concept which is used conscious or unconscious in most of the Blues compositions and blues improvisations. I show you the musical motifs in detail and with the proper timing. That way you understand how you can variate them in a easy way by just making variations on the timing signature. If you want to play the Jack by ACDC exactly the way as it played just listen to the original song and adapt the chords and the chord riff you learned here to the chords which are used there. But they are more or less the same and the riff is a very common blues riff which got famous by the song of AC DC. Here you can learn the chords, the melody and some improvisation tricks of the song on Broadway by George Benson. George Benson used to be a great jazz guitarists and performer and one of his signature songs was On Broadway. It is basically a blues which works with a simple riff and that one I am showing you in the tutorial. The Melody comes around with the singing of George Benson but I show an instrumental version of it here. Therefore I took the simple part of it and did not go too much with the little variations he did in his singing. The improvisation work like a blues and I am showing you a few simple tricks how can work in a jazzy way over these chords. There are several techniques to work with turnarounds. I can make a tutorial about this - but just as a starter. Try to just work it out by intuition. More or less it should work out. ?
