On Broadway ( George Benson )
Here you can learn the chords, the melody and some improvisation tricks of the song on Broadway by George Benson. George Benson used to be a great jazz guitarists and performer and one of his signature songs was On Broadway. It is basically a blues which works with a simple riff and that one I am showing you in the tutorial. The Melody comes around with the singing of George Benson but I show an instrumental version of it here. Therefore I took the simple part of it and did not go too much with the little variations he did in his singing. The improvisation work like a blues and I am showing you a few simple tricks how can work in a jazzy way over these chords. In the original song it transposed each chorus one half step up till the guitar solo comes. On Broadway ( George Benson ).pdf On Broadway ( George Benson ).gp george benson _ on broadway.mp3

Easy Smooth Jazz Guitar Phrasing Tricks
Hey Andrea, thanks for your feedback. I am glad this tutorial brought you some great motiviation and inspiration to work on scale and those 3 pretty simple rhythm ideas. The reason why the the gain fades in and out might be because it gets compressed and that pumping effect is pretty common when you overdo this effect. I see you work with 432Hz tunings too ? I have a page about that https://farbmusik.com/eng/432hz.html I will do more on 16th lines to understand it even better in the future. I was not able to download the recording - somehow it said something like this is an educational page but no download.

It's the phrasing which makes the smoothness and the difference between cool and very smooth jazz guitar lines in this genre. I broke down three main phrasing tricks which you can use to enter this really great genre of smooth jazz even if you're not so experienced in jazz guitar playing. In the first part of the tutorial I get some technical advice how you can build up your speed with the pentatonic or the minor scales and then I show you three rhythm figures and phrasing tricks which you can use in any situation by using any scale you like. When you analize protagonist of smooth jazz like Lee Ritenour, George Benson or other players it more or less leads to these three rhythm figures in any combinations. The combination of those three figures I am showing you if any notes you are using makes you a pro in smooth jazz guitar even if you're not experienced in jazz and you get a lot of fun in this kind of playing. It is basicly a minor blues in the key of E minor with the following chords : Em / Em / Em / Em / Em / Em / Em / Em Am / Am / Am / Am / Em / Em / Em / Em Bm / Bm / Am / Am / Em / Em / Em / Em a nd the song seems slow but it is a half time groove on 120 bpm. Long Tall Sally - Rock N Roll Guitar
Here you can learn the rock and roll guitar which can be played in the song Long Tall Sally by Little Richard. Even there is no guitar in the original song of course there can be a guitar played to this song. And what I'm showing here can be used for any other kind of rock and roll guitar situation. Since I have been playing in a professional rock and roll band for a long time I have the experience how rock and roll guitar on stage works and what the tricks are behind and I am showing this to you in this tutorial. The main thing in the rhythm guitar is that you have a steady relaxed right hand and you have the accent on count two and four. To be able to keep this going on a whole show like for one hour you have to be very relaxed. So pay close attention to the instructions I am giving you here. When it comes to lead guitar a rock and roll band situation is not as easy to handle as you might think. One of the main problems is that you need to keep the pressure and the Beat of the Music going on and don't lose it when you switch to lead guitar. With the instructions I'm giving you here you are ready to proceed this and to sound really cool in a rock and roll guitar situation. Long Tall Sally.pdf Long Tall Sally.gp long tall sally.mp3

Miles Davis Play / Rest Improvisation Concept
Here you can learn the concept of play and rest which Miles Davis created in his early recordings in jazz. This concept works for any instruments so also for jazz guitar. Miles Davis was a master of time and space in his improvisation concepts and here we analyze this concept of play and rest where are you keep improvisation lines going on by playing something then resting and then continuing the improvisation from where you rested. To put it into simple words you just play a phrase for one bar and then rest one bar then you continue to play one bar then you rest one bar. The more complex play rest concept works with playing one bar rest 2 bars or playing 2 bars rest 3 bars. An other important phrasing concept is to move the played motifs in the timing signatures. As an example you start the motive first on count one and when you repeated the second time you started on count 2 or count 1 + or any other timing signature which comes to your mind. In this tutorial I show you how to work with play rest 1 and 1 or 1 and 2. Also I move around the motives in the timing signatures as described. These are the easiest ways to start this concept but of course you can continue this and you really need to work on your timing I know you're feeling of space in music. The more you work on it the more you can really work this concept by intuition and then it starts to get more fluent. Also listen to recordings of Miles Davis to get a feeling of his way of phrasing and controlling time and space in jazz music. The Green Manalishi ( Peter Green - Fleetwood Mac )
Here you can learn the main parts of the song The Green Manalishi by Peter Green. Show me the easy to play but there are many different parts in it which makes it hard to memorize the parts. In this tutorial I am showing you the main parts so slowly that you can learn them one by one and then listen to the song a few times to put them together to the full song. When it comes to the meaning of the song the green ones was asked what the green manalishi exactly means and he replied that he meant the addiction to money and I think the dollar bill is green we have it. He also said another time that when he composed this song it took him 2 years to recover from the intensity of the song and I must say I do somehow understand it because it is a very wonderful and intense blues rock song.
