  2. HP, So what are you thinking when improving this song? Are you thinking Major, Minor, Dorian, etc.? Or is just something natural after playing all of the scales for the chord changes? Tks Richie

  5. HP, I'm glad you included the pdf for this song. It forces me to "read" the music. Tabs are ok but reading the standard notation is the way to go!! Tks ""

  8. Correct, I meant the B section, my error. I'm looking forward to the basic jazz improvisation course. I have the melody down, now working on the improv.
  9. HP, great starter tune for us new jazz players. I think I figured out "part C" of the song where you improvise over the 2-5-1 in C. You mention the Mixolydian mode can be used over this progression. I gave it a try and it does work however, if you could provide some riffs, standard notation and/or tabs it will help me understand what notes to play and at what point. I'm getting my arms this but need some guidance. TY

  12. I had posted another question but I believe I posted in the wrong area of the site. The most resent video did a good job explaining how to use the site. My question is regarding the St Louis Blues. After the melody, what chords are being played? I tried using the chords from the song but it doesn't sound right. A notation and/tabs for the solo would be helpful. Tks

Great easy tune. Question; is the second half of the backing track a different chord progression? Doesnโ€™t seem to follow the melody to me. Also what mode can you use over the progression? If you could provide general notation or tab that would be helpful. TY

  16. Thanks for the detailed feedback. Iโ€™ve started working on the St Louis Blues and beginning to understand the use of triads and realize I donโ€™t have to play every note and to pause occasionally which is starting to sound like โ€œ music โ€œ!!

  18. First I must say your jazz basic lessons are exactly what I was looking for. What Iโ€™m struggling with is trying to make them โ€œ musical โ€œ. Iโ€™ve tried starting on the 5th and descending or ascending but it sounds to mechanical. Any would be much appreciated.
