Here you find some ideas to make your alternative rock guitar song sound really special. I took the very very common progression with C / G / F / C G and made some really great sound versions of it. There is the main rhythm guitar which you can play with a slight distorted guitar which creates this deep alternative vibe and then add the other unusual chords to them. The backing track is drums, bass & the main guitar riff.
