It was really about time that I overworked the entire website now and made the whole thing as compact and cooperate identity look style as possible. Now I am proud to announce that the new website is online now.

Check : http://www.hanspeterkruesi.com

The idea was always to pull all my services and all my work to one website and now it's done. One of the main hard tasks was that there are in fact so many services and projects. They are still all out there but all roads and links will now lead to this website here.

This important update is also part of my new strategy I worked on since more than one year to free myself from all social media plattforms. I don't believe that they will have a consistant future as they had in the past. Many users are upset by them changing community guidelines all the time only for their advantage and the abuse of there personal data on this plattforms. Here on this website your personal data is completly save and will never be used for something else then the monthly newsletter and you can completly delete your data anytime.

Also digital music distribution is overgoing dramatic changes. Spotify announced that only artists over 1000 streams per song will get any royalities payed out. Then earning of the artists which are below that will go to the bigger artists. That's something I can not support anymore. And there are now more and more restrictions for artist who want to distribute there music in Spotify and other plattforms.

I will do special edition distribution here on this website - for music which is not allowed in the official stores anymore or just because I want to make my music faster available for users. So this is a major shift in my online and digital strategies. And as a personal note - when Facebook and co came up I knew this would not lead to something good and it was in fact a mistake to spend so much time keeping up on social media strategies. In these days the situation has changed so much that the ammount of time you have to spend to reach as much people as before as exceeded a healthy balance in the workflow.

So this website is now my personal anwser to the developments which started to go in the wrong direction since 2018.

Here I show you a simple but very effective blues rock guitar riff played with a drop D tuning. I show you how to develop the simple riff into something really cool and hypnotic and also to add some really tasty licks in combination with the riff.

On guitar I have been a legato and touch technique player for many years. Since I first started as a pianist in my career I always wanted to get to the same playing abilities with both hands on guitar by just transferring my piano style to guitar. I remember when I started that journey. It was short after my studies at Swiss music university I wanted to make a solo program based on this technique and there I played the first simple tune but at the end it took me many years to get this playing technique to perfection and like 3-4 years ago I felt I can not develop further as a guitarist if I would only focus on this technique. But I love the smoothness of the sound of legato playing and tapping. It creates such A nice flow in the playing which you can not achieve when you just do the regular picking technique. But on the other hand some things are not possible when you only go for the legato technique. So facing these facts I decided to start my journey to economic picking like 2 years ago starting with the first arpeggio exercises you can view here. It took a while till my fingers and hands could do all stretch movements which are created by these exercises. First I just did these exercises with alternate picking but later I started to do those exercises with economic picking meaning that I would use economic picking on all spots where possible.

This was harder than I thought - even when you are able to play the arpeggio's properly with alternate picking technique it took me one additional year to get the movements nice, smooth and fluent with economic picking that it would sound as nice and smooth as by using the legato technique. Now finally I have reached a spot where I can start to use those endless exercises in a creative way in upcoming jazz and smooth jazz interpretations and improvisations. The main task is that this technique shall be used spontaneously in an improvisation and not just by playing a long lick of phrase which you learned by heart. I feel now after 2 years the first results are working now which I soon will present with recordings and I will also share some licks and ideas here for those who want to give it a try. :-)

This course will guide you through the basics you need to know about playing smooth jazz guitar. This includes the theoretical knowledge of modes and how to use them in a smooth jazz environment in combination with regular improvisation techniques and ideas with pentatonics. Even pentatonics work in smooth jazz the modes are also needed to get the vibe of smooth jazz.

Rhythm and rhythm studies are also part of this course which are essential to play a proper smooth jazz guitar.

In order to follow this course here you need to be an intermediate player who at least fullfilled the requierements of the intermediate blues guitar course since blue and smooth jazz have a very similar improvisation concept with motives and developing motive driven solo and improvisation ideas.

It is recommended that you already know the theory about modes but you can also follow this course without this knowledge and learn to work with modes by doing these exercises which are posted here.

This is the first tutorial of the series " Guitar Sound Lab " where I talk about the pure sound of the guitar. I talk about the dynamic range of your equipment and what you can figure out by selecting different guitar pickup settings and settings of your volume. The pure sound tutorial is the most important one because it defines what kind of guitar signal you will send into your effect chains.

Here you find the backing track I used in this tutorial. It's only drum & bass that you really can figure out your guitar sound. The chord progression is :

Em / Em / C / C / Am / Am / D / D

Improvisation vs playing written music is an ongoing topic when it comes to learn music or learning to play guitar. You can compare it to the way jazz or blues musician see music and the way classical educated musicians express music. So which one is the right or better one ? From my experience as a guitar teacher over many years I can tell that there are both types of players out there and there are many players who take the best out of both worlds but also some of them who just prefer one of those worlds. As an example I am very much on the side of free improvisation and I am always having a really hard time when I have to play something note by note as it is written. These days I needed to learn 150 minutes of repertoire for a cover rock band and I really had a hard time learning everything by heart but it is worth it to explore that type of playing where you don't feel so comfortable because it strengthens your abilities in your preferred world of playing. Both ways need a lot of practice and discipline to reach mastery and to become a balanced and perfect player. I do believe that it makes sense to work on your weak spots from time to time but I know there are also other opinions out there in the guitar world.

Here I show you THE slow blues guitar riff played with a drop D tuning.

Rhythm Studies
Here you find the entire course " Rhythm Studies " were students can learn to fix their rhythm and timing issues. The key to fix this issue is to know what rhythm is and to practice every aspect of rhythm with a click and directly on the fretboard. If you know how rhythm is written then you know what kind of rhythm pattern you are playing and how it sounds. This is an entire course " Rhythm Studies " were you start from the very beginning. Take every lesson very seriously. At the end of the studies it gets really difficult and if you don't know each module of this course very well you don't have a change in the last 2-3 lessons anymore to fulfill the task. Also take the written pauses very seriously. Every note has a beginning and an end. So also be precise on the endings of the notes.

I am currently working a lot on guitar sounds with my AXE FX Products. I do own the AXE FX III and the AXE FM3. Here you can see my studio rack :

Now here's the current task which has to be solved or which was always a task when I worked on guitar sounds. The unedited amplifier sound or sound out of modeling amp systems which I mostly use have a kind of " hardness " in it. That means that you hear the attack of the pick well and in a disturbing way this makes it hard to play a really fast run - also when you only play legato and the notes don't come as smooth as they should. This effect can also happen when you have your amp settings nice at home and then you go on stage and the sound engineer puts a random microphone position and then you have this same effect again which gives you the same described problem. This is the task I am working on often and the bad things can change when you change the sound environment like the room, the microphone, the microphone position, the guitar, the pick or the playing technique. All have to work together to get the perfect guitar sound which makes your playing seemingless and supports your playing technique.

The next level of professional education are the guitar courses which I started to write now. For any level from intermediate to advanced till professional there will be awards of even a diploma available. The reason for the courses is to canalize all the information and tutorials which are available to some goals which you might want to achieve and to help you guys to give you some direction in what you want to work on.

Here you find the summary of the courses which are currently available : https://www.hanspeterkruesi.com/members/forum/84-courses/

Anybody who wants to do the test after working on the course can achieve an award or a diploma which will be displayed permanently in the personal profile. Here you see the award of the blues intermediate course.

I have been reviewing and listening to the new young generation of guitar players who really take the way of guitar playing to a new level. These are of course Matteo Mancuso, Josh Meader from the jazz fraction, Max Ostro from the metal and shredding fraction and Tim Hanson and Ichika Nito from the I would call new age - metal fraction.
