Basic psycological online pedagogic

  • Admin

On guitartricks.com where I am a instructor there are major changements going on. Since my teaching method is a bit unconventional I needed to explain my method the the reasons the way I create my online lessons. Here is what I wrote.

Hi Jeff,

I have been very tired when I was writing my last email yesturday since I just returned from a liveperformance late night. I don't appologize for what I said but I want to try to make clear why individual teaching methods are that important for teachers ( if they are professionals ) . Since I am very much into pedagogic and psychologic teachings contepts I just wanted to let you know what I my experiences are.

The learning process on the guitar has a lot to do with personal experience, learning from mistakes, finding out strong and weak points and what is very important having a personal relation with the teacher you are learning. Each student on every level has to learn things his own way and his own experiences. The main job of a teacher is to bring down things on very simple basic ways of experience. As a example - to learn diatonic chords it has to be visual clear that the chords are deduced from a scale which can be seen and felt when you play the chords in own row on one string. The student now can feel the scale. Probaly he does not feel conforable with a kind of chord or position and he gets frustrated and he starts thinking that he is a complete failure because it looks so easy on the video and he is not able to play it that way. He gets into negative emotions and starts to get demotivated which might lead to the point where he gives up playing. As a normal teacher you can feel such frustrations and you can interfer by a personal speach with the student. As a online teacher you don't have that oportunity to interfer so you must show students that you have emotions and weak points too and that you love what you are doing or you hate what you are doing to name the extrem forms of emotions. That is the reason why I let my personal emotions shine through on all my online lessons. A student needs to feel that you are a living and breathing teacher with strong and weak points - this makes a student feel something like " we are the same so I can reach his level of playing as well if I keep it going " . This is called emotional motivation and is the key to any kind of pedagogic work. On that europian symposisa in 2006 all experts asked me the same question " how did you solve the problem of individual access to students by teaching online " . This is the answer I gave them and my 10 years of experience in online education are showing that my method works.

I have gone unconvential ways to develope my method been a psychological and pedagogic pionier and I worked very hard to prove that I am right. That's why I can not change it in the matter of standardized expectations. If I do not believe in something I am not willing to support it so this would lead to the point where I had no choice then leaving guitartricks.com even that I don't want to.

I do know that a lot of teachers never have thought this way so I understand your point of view - but I would apprechiate that you would take the time to think about mine. I hope you see that I am not just reacting this way because I get critized. I don't mind as long I agree with the issue.

PS : Since I never took time to write this down I will put this mail into my blog. Think is kind of short explaination of basic psychological online pedagogic.:-)

Best Regards
