Here I explain the advanced blues improvisation concept using the mixolydian mode beside the minor pentatonic. I am playing a standard blues form :

D / D / A / A

E / D / A / E

 

The scales you can use are :

 

A : A minor pentatonic / A mixolydian mode

D : A minor pentatonic / D mixolydian mode

E : A minor pentatonic / E mixolydian mode
