On workdays 1-2 hours

On weekends 2-3 hours (probably even more, but 2-3 hours for sure).

Short term goals: To be able to play Oye Como Va from Santana, Learn major and minor triads; Learn where to find the blue note of the blues scale all over the fretboard in several keys. Learn more minor scales positions and know how and when to use it.

Long term goals: To get a good expression in a Rock & Blues context; To be flexible on any speed and any form of blues and rock and have a freedom on improvisation over the whole fretboard; To become as well a well-rounded rhythm player (Rock, Blues and Funk); Last but not least I want to be able to write good songs.

Practice plan on workdays (approximate timing)

10-15 min. warm up with minor scale / blues scale patterns

10-15 min. work on expression tools like vibrato, bending, harmonics etc.

short break

15-20 min. work on Oye como va

short break

15-20 min. common chord progressions in triads

short break

15-20 min. jamming over a backing track

long break

10-15 min. rhythm training (take a song and try to emulate the drums/beat with guitar)

short break

10-15 min. exercises in order to get a wider finger stretch range on the fretboard (e.g. so called Andy Summers chords, rhythm & blues chord changes)

15-20 min. music theory

short break

15-20 min. jam along with a song I like

Well, this i my approximate current plan, any suggestions, especially from Hanspeter :) , are welcomed.

Wow this is a very good practice plan. Very structured and covers the important things which are in fact nessary to master the guitar the way you described.

I want to give you the following additional suggestions since I know how you play from your mp3 you sent me.

http://www.hanspeterkruesi.com/guitarschool/index.php?showtopic=977 - as an additional to your current private online lesson

http://www.hanspeterkruesi.com/guitarschool/index.php?showtopic=1343 - for Oye Como Va

http://www.hanspeterkruesi.com/guitarschool/index.php?showtopic=1345 - Santana in general

and since you are getting into scales I would suggest that you learn the modes as well. You don't need to get into all modes but the modes in major and minor ( not harmonic and melodic minor ) would be a great add. And learn the connection between scales and intervals. Every scale is a summary of intervals - example minor pentatonics contains the intervals 1 b3 4 5 b7 / the minor scale ( aeolian ) 1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7 or the major scale ( ionian ) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
