Metal Guitar - Essential Rhythm Studies Tabs & Backing Tracks
If you want to get into Metal Guitar you need to know the basic rhythm figures which are unfortunately based on 16th notes. If you don't know rhythm and rhythm notation you will have quit a hard time. So these rhythm studies will help you to learn the rhythm notation which is used in metal guitar. In these rhythm studies you first learn the basic rhythm figures including the pauses which are also important and in the second part you learn to make combinations out of the basic figures. It is very important that you can locate each of the 4 notes which makes a 16th note group. If you are able to play and sight - read the 2nd part of these studies you managed these rhythm studies. To make it easier for you you can play the studies just with the low E string which already sounds a lot like Metal Guitar. Start with 60 bpm then rise the tempo. I have exported the audio file with 75 bpm which is still slow but gives you the time to still figure out the different parts. If you can play the studies with 120 bpm then you are near to a Metal Guitar Master.
I have added 2 backing tracks with metal music in E in 70 bpm and 105 bpm that you can practice those exercises in 2 different tempo's.

Essential Timing Exercises - full, half, quarter and 8th notes
In rock guitar timing is very important. The more tight you play your chords or single note lines the more " rock " your guitar will sound. Here is now a summary of the main essential rhythm figures you need to know when it comes to rock guitar. Practice them with a click or a rock drum loop in different tempo's because every tempo feels different and also pay close attention that your foot is also hitting the click of the metronome or the quarter notes of the rock drum loop.
The first part are the main rhythm figures which you need to know in detail how they feel, sound and how they look like in written notation. The second part are exercises from easy till advanced. You can control with the attached audio file if you have done the exercise correct. To achieve mastery in this topic also start to write your own exercises and play them with any chord you like.

Steady Drop D Hard Rock Guitar - Tabs & Backing Track
This is a cool and steady hard rock guitar riff played with a drop D tuning. Since this is a drop D tuning the riff is easy to play. The chords are really easy to grab but to play it steady it quite a challenge. I have added 2 version of the rock backing track. One track is with guitar and one backing track is only with drum and bass.

Rock Guitar Timing - Exercises & Backing Tracks
The proper timing in rock guitar is very important. Here you find some exercises in the key of Dm with only one chord so that you can totally focus on your timing and your precision level. At the end you should reach 100% precision level. I have added 3 backing tracks that you can practice in 3 different tempos' : 85, 95 and 105 bpm.

One Horse Town - Blackberry Smoke ( Tabs )
These are the tabs from the acoustic version of the song " One Horse Town " by Blackberry Smoke. Since there are several guitars on the original recordings doing several little figures in between I have written a version which works best for all players and still includes the signature parts of the song.

Swagger Alternative Rock Guitar - Tabs and Backing Track
This is a cool alternative rock guitar song which you can play very nicely and laid back. With this alternative rock guitar riff you can really show off that you are a cool alternative rock guitar guy because even the chords are simple they have a very special touch with the Csus2 chord or the Fsus2add13 chord. They sound cool and spicy. The backing track is really cool with 75 bpm and gives the whole thing a great vibe. After an interlude in the middle of the track they claps give the whole thing a great vibe.

This is a very simple rock backing track with only bass and drum. You can use this to practice any kind of rock guitar powerchords. The chord progression is very simple :

These are the tabs of a great blues rock riff played with a drop D tuning. You have to tune down your low E-string to a D and then you can play power chords really easy. Here a heavy drop D blues rock riff with different variations. You can select the variations on your own. The backing track supports your practice work but you can also use it to practice your blues rock solo guitar. Since we are in the key of Dm you can use the D minor pentatonics or blues scale.

Here you can download the tabs of the rhythm guitar of the song " Cum On Feel The Noize " by Quiet Riot. On the original recording are 2-3 guitars but I wrote a version for you which works only with one guitar. The backing track is only bass and drum which work together with the tabs.
