This is the first tutorial of the series " Guitar Sound Lab " where I talk about the pure sound of the guitar. I talk about the dynamic range of your equipment and what you can figure out by selecting different guitar pickup settings and settings of your volume. The pure sound tutorial is the most important one because it defines what kind of guitar signal you will send into your effect chains.

Here you find the backing track I used in this tutorial. It's only drum & bass that you really can figure out your guitar sound. The chord progression is :

 I certainly appreciate this tutorial and looking forward to other tutorials on this same topic.
Curious…..….as a senior (76 yrs) and as my hearing is becoming somewhat less than ideal particularly in the higher register, I am considering purchasing hearing aids.  Any thoughts on this with respect to amplified sound and I  am sure that other seniors have the same issues and concerns.

Maybe other students give there voice on this topic. What I can say is that age is not a problem when it comes to guitar playing and the movement of the fingers and hands. I have one live-student at the moment who can only hear on one ear and he is doing great with playing by ear.

The topic is very exciting for me and I am also looking forward to further episodes. Again and again I have doubts about my guitar (besides my limited technical skills) and especially about my various modeling settings. I use a Line 6 HX Stomp. This is just one of many modeling devices on the market. But all these devices have one thing in common. The possibilities are overwhelming. And last but not least, I personally lack the right understanding of the crucial sequence of effects. So obviously the only correct way is to proceed step by step. Greetings, Roland

Hello Greg,  that's a good thought. I've also asked myself this question. How would a hearing aid affect my daily practice on the guitar? Especially as I have to play a lot with headphones so as not to disturb the neighbors and my wife.  I'll probably take them out when I'm practicing with headphones, because they are already a kind of hearing aid. I'm looking forward to your experiences. Thanks in advance, Roland
