This course will guide you through the basics you need to know about playing smooth jazz guitar. This includes the theoretical knowledge of modes and how to use them in a smooth jazz environment in combination with regular improvisation techniques and ideas with pentatonics. Even pentatonics work in smooth jazz the modes are also needed to get the vibe of smooth jazz. Rhythm and rhythm studies are also part of this course which are essential to play a proper smooth jazz guitar. In order to follow this course here you need to be an intermediate player who at least fullfilled the requierements of the intermediate blues guitar course since blue and smooth jazz have a very similar improvisation concept with motives and developing motive driven solo and improvisation ideas. It is recommended that you already know the theory about modes but you can also follow this course without this knowledge and learn to work with modes by doing these exercises which are posted here. Hier habe ich angelehnt an den Stil von Hans Zimmer eine cinematische Komposition umgesetzt, welche auch live mit etwas Gitarreneffekten gespielt werden wird. Die Tonart F# Moll ist sehr emotional und ausdrucksstark und passend zur Farbe " Violett ". Den Titel habe ich angelehnt an eine Szene aus Kevin Costners Film " Postman " genommen. ---------------- Everywhere in the world there is so much fighting and war. Here is a piece as a small contribution to peace. Here I have created a cinematic composition based on the style of Hans Zimmer, which will also be played live with some guitar effects. The key of F# minor is very emotional and expressive and matches the color "violet". I based the title on a scene from Kevin Costner's movie "Postman".

This is the first of many tutorials to come where you can take your step from an intermediate blues guitar player to a solid intermediate smooth jazz guitar player. Here you can download the files associated to this tutorial :

Starting Guitar This course here is the starting point for all guitar players who want to start guitar and they enter a guitar lesson with no experience. This one tutorial is the one which you first should pay attention to. Here you can learn all you need to learn in the first 3 – 6 months of your journey when you are starting the guitar. From my experience as a guitar tutor and guitar instructor since 1999 it always turned to be those topics I am talking about here. The threshold to go further is the barréchord. That one is the tricky part which can make the first steps harder and longer time to get stuck in the beginners phase. The good news is with regular practicing you can really make it in 3 months. I experienced this myself when I started the guitar at the age of 20. So i pretty much remember those steps. Be patient and just practice regular and suddely those things I am showing here work out for you and you are ready to get to the next level of guitarplaying. If you want to make sure that you are practicing right please open up your blog and share your practicing routines. Here you can download the basic chords which I am talking about in the tutorial : To learn the pentatonics you might want to work on the pentatonic patterns. I would start with pattern 1 as you can see in these files here but the main problem is the flexibilty of your fingers. This will take some time - so you can use this time to already work on all pentatonic patterns. This will work on the same problem you are facing as a beginner. You can also work either on the the minor or on the major pentatonics. I strongly recommend that while you learn your pentatonic patterns you start to learn the intervals which you can see in these patterns. As a beginner you only need to know where the root note of each pattern is. The root note is marked with a " 1 " You are ready as soon as you can play the basic chords with basic strumming fluently. This will take as mentioned approx. 3 months if you practice them 3 times daily ( at least 5-10 Min ) and as soon you can include the barré chord fluently with basic strumming you are ready to go into the direction which you want. The pentatonic patterns should be played in 8ths fluently with alternate picking like with 80 bpm and you should always know where the root note is. Then you can start with more creative playing and start working on the genre which you would like to learn. Next step would be now to start checking tutorials which are marked with " easy " : blues guitar easy rock guitar easy easy jazz guitar A really great spot is to start with blues because most modern music finds it's root in blues. All improvisation concepts in other genres are in fact coming from blues. iTunes Link Finally I released a new piano - CD. This CD represents a full " Farbmusik " concert where I first play the colours red, orange, yellow, green, lightblue, blue and violett and then I play 5 Songs in the add-on. Red, yellow, green, darkblue and violett. The stilistic range of my piano playing is around Keith Jarett, Brad Mehldau, Michel Petrucciani, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman but with my unique concept of playing colours. I am very proud that after playing many concerts my piano playing came on a new level were I felt it was time to release a new CD. In the booklet on iTunes you find a german descriptions of each song and the exact colour which is played.

I have composed and recorded a very dramatic solo piano - song. It is a bit influenced by Sergei Rachmaninov's Prelude in C#minor.

This is a wonderful tune which I composed for solo piano - I think it also fits into the colourmusic colection. In this case it would be a bright red.
