Hey guys, here are now the may 24 updates : First of all - it has been an extrem busy month for me where I needed to learn a lot of repertoire on piano and guitar for some upcoming performances here in Switerland. The amount of diversity can not be bigger. On piano I needed to work on Mozart, Schuhmann, Beethoven, List and on guitar I joined a 80's & 90's cover rockband " Thell " for a few performances. I learned a lot of songs in detail which will soon come along such as this " Eye of the Tiger " tutorial : There are 2 updates in the HPCrazy Guitar Academy : 1 : Updated site guidelines - No refunds policy 2 : There is a new department available here in the Academy. My teaching method is more intuitiv then many others. I felt it makes sense to get beginners used to my method from the very beginning so that they can get into the intermediate level where most tutorials are located at the moment. I am testing difference styles on my tiktok account and as it seems this type of style and genre works really good even I I only have like 130 followers. Jazz Easy Minor Smooth Jazz Licks : Here I show you some nice and tasty minor smooth jazz guitar licks over the progression Fm7 / Fm7 / Db7 / C7 Autumn Leaves Chords : Here I show you some very useful exercises for jazz guitar improvisation. The tips and tricks are adapted to the chords of the first part of the tune " Autumn Leaves " which is a very common chord progression in jazz. Highlight of the Month I strongly recommend this tutorial here. I have some additional cool stuff planed with will come soon - also I will finally start to produce more music again. In these times as an independant artist you need to find a position where AI is taking over the market. I did some research to see what AI can do and now I have my strategy. I also did a lot of research of social media and YT channels to see what the big community is doing out there to find my position. A little feedback on yesterday's concert in Seegräben. It was wonderful again. About 20 people on site and 50 online and there was once again an improvised piano concert to listen to. The piano in Seegräben does not necessarily meet the highest professional standards and the journey to Seegräben is unfortunately too arduous for many interested people because there is no connection to public transport. But there is a reason why I always play in Seegräben. I myself once lived in Seegräben and in this church I often sat alone at the piano there and developed concepts and music, which accompany me to this day in my creative work and this piano, which is about 100 years old, is also part of the creative flow. In my opinion the creative flow is much more important than the marketing technical aspects of a concert and with the respective live broadcast the people can still be there. What is planned for the future ? Now I finally want to integrate the guitar more into the concerts. Up to now there was not enough time to work out a new program. This is the next item on the pending list. I have ordered a new color lighting, which should dip the room more into the played color. Unfortunately it was not delivered yesterday, but I hope that the next concert on 8.12. will be the first time this lighting will be in use.

Thoughts about new creative ways I could go. 7-string guitar I really want to expand my sound spectrum in my music and my solo guitar playing specially with the touch technique. Doing 10 finger tapping on only 6 strings is really challenge because there is not much space left and you always need to check which strings are free. But the big disadvantage of the 7 string is in fact the tone control is not so good like on 6 strings. An other thought - I love doing scatting but the range of my voice does not work so well on the regular open string keys - but B minor is just great and works. So I will give a try there. Composing - Live Playing I am checking Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malsteen and other players at the moment to get some inspriation for own songs or playings. Today I came to the finding that I would love to do instrumental cinematic guitar music. That would combine the best of 2 worlds - guitar sounds and cinematic sounds. Main problem I currently have is in fact my time schedules to arrange and compose the music for that. But I will send it into my creative channels and see how it evolves.

Hey guys, many people always asked me if I play in a band and in the past years I always said, that I don't play in a band because I am too busy with all my online projects which were going really well. But it always was something I wanted to do but of course I am really picky with musicians even everybody wanted to play with me in Switzerland. Well maybe not everybody but most of the musicians I know always said that they would join me if I would form a band. I had a talk with Mario Caspar 2 days ago. And I consider him the best drummer in Switzerland when it comes to funky, straight ahead and bluesy grooves. He said he's in and drummers always want to select there bass players and he has choosen Lubo Kopka because he wanted to have a bass player which plays easy going and simple but very steady and laid back. So thats the band now - a trio. Me, Mario and Lubo. You can see Mario and Lubo on the video's on Mario's Channel with the Kurt Ackermann band. Our first meeting will be in January and then we will see how far we get. There were some problems with the band since the bassplayer didn't feel confident to play in a trio and he did not like blues rock and rock when I really asked him to give me an honest anwser. So the band unfortunately disolved some time ago. But I contacted Mario if we should not give it another try and he would love to do so and he ask an other bassplayer which currently works with the Swiss Jimi Hendrix clone Asep Stone and he would love to join the band. So we are planing to make our first rehersal in Nov. Here you can listen to the bass player.

I just watched again the movie " Fabulous Baker Boys " with the wonderful jazz piano music of Dave Grusin. The movie shows the life of bar pianists in the mid 90s. That was also the time when I started my career as a pianist in all those jazz piano bars ( Splendid Bar, Widder Bar, Casa Bar and many others in Switzerland ). The film is so authentic that it brings back the memories of that time. I can almost smell the smell of cold ashes in the ashtrays after the bar closed so at 2:00 in the morning, but you stayed a little longer. The film also reminds me of how it was when people still made music for music's sake without paying too much attention to what was popular. Who knows the film, also knows the end of the story. That's where I want to start again. After years of aligning after Alogerithmen I want to make at least in the creative segment of my work (music) again what I really want. And that is also the beauty of the currently very difficult world political situation - you can actually lose nothing more. Now is exactly the opportunity to do what you always wanted, but you perhaps did not dare, because you were too concerned about security..... it is unfortunately a known law. If you give up your freedom to gain security, you will lose both in the end. This is true on a large scale as well as on a personal level.... Here you can watch the trailer of this great movie :

Composing Royalities Reading my royality report by Swiss composer association SUISA I see a huge rise of usage of my music internationaly. Somehow the Google cooperation used my music very often and as it seems also Netflix in one case. Thats really cool. I got signed by a LA music library like 10 years ago and it looks like the music from that library made the way to those huge companies. I love to be a composer and back in 2008 - 2012 I really pushed it hard to get into that buisness but the competition is huge since it is international. I got quite successful back in these days with many placements in Swiss TV and also ABC, BBC and many other broadcasting companies but somehow I thought the effort to get there is too big for what you get and then I decided to push for the HPCrazy YouTube channel which took off really fast in 2012 - 2015. The royalities from my composing area are still coming and I think I will try to make some free time againg for my composing. It has been a while since I produced music.

Hey Ot, thanks for your nice words. Which was the tutorial you found the other morning ? Was it the Autumne Leaves one ? Yes that ons is really nice and you can approach it with little knowledge of jazz or a lot of knowledge of jazz. I love that you use the guitar practice as a meditation practice. It's the same for me - and that's the right approach which helps a lot to connect many things and also to the guitar. Thats a good thing that you mention that. I could do a tutorial on that subject again. And cool that you started guitar in a bit " higher " age. In music there are no restrictions - so go for it.

The main shift which will happen is that I don't make content anymore because of the YouTube alogerithm but because I enjoy the topic I am talking about. It took a while till we were able to do our first rehersal - today was the day and it was as I expected great. We discussed about adding more instruments but my quote which everybody agreed was, that there are so many bands with full instrumentation but only rare bands who make a trio with Drums, Bass and Guitar. Everybody agreed and so this is it now. We will start with the rehersals and hopefully soon be ready to publish something.

Healing and meditation music Since our world and our society is facing many changements and challenges I have been thinking for quite a while about my personal next steps in music and the music business. I am looking back to a quick successful career in the music business since 1991. I have been a performing artist, composer for TV and movies and companies, a professor at music university, a representative of my country Switzerland on international music symposiums and I recorded over 60 CD's and I am represented on over 500 samplers as far as I checked the last time like 3 years ago. I also have been very prominent in online teaching on guitartricks.com, gibson.com and on my YouTube channel with the HPCrazy Guitar Academy but there is one thing which I always worshiped a lot and never brought so much into the center and attention and that's my concept of Farbmusik which has a huge knowledge behind it. VIEW Documentation or watch this german interview I gave in Nov. 2021 : I came to the conclusion that it's now time to step into a new world in my work. All things have always been ready but since I was so much involved in the music industry I never found the time nor motivation to do it even though that kind of music and perception of music is truly a UPS. Music has a lot of healing and harmonizing power and the concept of Farbmusik in fact is exactly made for that. This concept was always part of my musical work in the past 12 years, either in teaching, at concerts or in composition but is was always hidden and I felt I want the music speak for itself. In the past 2 years I went through a personal transition such as many others and for me the result led into the phrase " Speak Your Truth " - and that's what I will be doing from now on in music. I will talk about the healing powers of music and I will also teach how to work on self-healing thru music. I have decided this now and now it's time to step into this bold new world - and it makes sense. I am also an astrologer and nows the time to step into a new world. The world everywhere is demanding this to use so let us all make a better world. It's a unique constellation which appeared the last time around 1420 and 1789 - no now's the time.

I always had this idea of doing outdoor meditation concerts - like doing a fullmoon concert and being outside and in fact watching the moon while playing somewhere out in nature. But since I dont like to play acoustic guitar so much this was never possible with the electric guitar. But now I have this great new outdoor equipment which contains a 500W jackery powerbank connected with a solar panel. I have done a first test today and it works. I can charge the powerbank within 1-2 hours to get enough power for a one hour concert where I have my Roland 60W acoustic amplifier, my Mackie Mixer and my Fractal Audio FM3. This is awesome. As soon as the weather makes it possible I will give a first try with an outdoor electric guitar meditation concert somewhere out in the nowhere. And with this equipemnt I can livestream it. That would be the next test I want to do. But basicly I have all equiment together for that. Even a ring light which also could be attached to the Jackery Powerbank. This is so cool - so I wanted to share my idea to you guys. And of course if some local people want to attend the concert they are most welcome.

Finished the testing and developing phase Since 2 years I am serios running this website and building up the system to make it as user friendly as possible and to make your experience here the best possible. For my taste... the steel drum AND your Piano - is way to much. That's Overstimulating.

Here I found a video where the steel drummer is playing with me. At the time he was a member of the Billy Cobham Band and also was playing with guys like Pat Matheny and and .... but people didnt like him so much.... here you see him playing with Billy Cobham and he was really angry when I said I wanted to continue alone - i could not understand his reaction since you can see the difference of my small concert in the church in Seegräben and his world tour with Cobham.....

If I read your story, I must say I had the same experiences, not on this professionnel level, but I totally understand! Less musicians can be more to the music. The good feelings and good friendships can`t be paid with money.

Well that's a long story - I was in fact playing in bands at the beginning of my career. Mainly top 40 or helping out bands for open airs or stuff like that. I didn't really like the job but since I could not play piano anymore at that times I needed those jobs to survive. The better I got as a musician the more I was totally bored at those jobs - and then like in 2003 there was this big fight in the band I was playing. At that time this was the leading party band in Switzerland where the top musicians were playing. I got into a fight with the bass player and then the thing totaly got out of control so I left the band since I got great opportunities offered in the internet. And then things took so much off that I didn't have the time for other things anymore. In 2010 I started with my Farbmusik solo concerts. I could not work with other musicians because they did not understand the concept of improvising colors - later I tried to play with a steel drummer who also improvises with colors. Also I tried to form bands or work with other musicians but the audience always said that the other musicians disturb the music - they wanted to hear me solo. And the musicians all mainly wanted money instead of developing something really nice. So I continued to play solo because it made no sense for me to work with other musicians. Now this band might work because we are friends and we are on the same side. It's not about money - it's about doing something together.

Yes that question was in my mind also... if you have some videos from your live concerts with other musuicians. I can understand to go the own way (solo) and that everything has it`s time - NOW I look forward and will enjoy your band activity! Greets Andrea

Hey guys, I wanted to share more background information on the production of any jazz production. These are jazz guitar recordings in the near future and all jazz backing tracks since 2021. I want them to sound as authentic as possible so they are all using the original reverb setting of the center on the birdland café in New York to give it a really authentic vibe as sitting in that club. You can listen to this file here where I used that method :

I want to share a few thoughts I went through in the past weeks and months which led to a personal reset which has started in these days which in fact will alter my artist work a bit and probably make it more personal then it was before. I think the past 12 months were challenging for nearly everybody on this planet in many ways. I always said to my close people or those I spoke to that the Covid crisis brings people to what they really are. And so I thought about my upcoming path as an artist and musician also with this new situation that hit artists probably most. I know that I have been very successful as an online instructor in the past 15 years. I have been an instructor at gibson.com at guitartricks.com and now since 2013 on my HPCrazy Guitar Channel. But beside this guitar player and guitar instructor there was always a second person with another artistic expression. I am a very spiritual person who dedicated my whole life to music and ways of expressing emotions with music but I am also an educated astrologer and trained in spiritual exercises. That was always my source of inspiration but till 2020 I always kept it more or less secret because I wanted to be seen as a mainstream musician. I made many thoughts about this in 2020 and in Nov. 2020 I decided to put my knowledge of Farbmusik, of Astrology and spiritual exercises into a brand new psychological - musical concept to help people in situations of crisis. So I set up a new website http://www.sternentherapie.com and one week later I had my first client. It was my Sister Monika - she got bad news from her doctor and needed support. So I took the challenge even I could see in her astrological chart that it was a " Make it or break it " situation. At the end she did not make it, but she left our world in complete peace and I must say at the very end of her life she got to her full spiritual strength and recognition. And that's what it's all about. When she passed away I knew that this was a sign for me that I also should start this. The principle of Sternentherapie is very much connected to music. Beside the councelling with astrology you get your personal meditation music to work on your themes. When a client asks for that additional feature I improvise a song on piano related to a person's current situation. In my normal artist work I will now more include my full person and my full knowledge. Well it was always there but somehow I hid it behind pictures with no words or music with no words. This will change now. I said goodbye to the old mainstream musician I was, I will leave more or less my social media life on Facebook, Instagram and I will start to do Sternentherapie, Farbmusik and continue the HPCrazy Academy but will also bring more psychological aspects into it. And so this webpage here will be the center of my work in the future. So this my personal reset which I liked to share. Hey M. 🙂 thanks for your words and your story about your life. For me your desicions sound right and you seem to follow your heart and calling way more then before. At the end it's always about what is important for each of use. It's not about money or fame or other things, it's about what fullfills each of us and makes us get up each morning with joy. Dear HP, I’d really like to thank your for your very personal reflection of the last year. I’m sad to read what happened to your sister but at the same time I glad to see how you’ve changed or better say transformed. When I read through your thoughts I can see the human being behind it & hope that there’ll be much more people like you. On my personal story: I was working for about 30 years at the IT and to be honest was never happy with my job. Of course salary was good but it never made me feel well. Almost 4 years ago I decide to quit my job, took some time off & than started to learn how to play the guitar at the age of 52. This was always was a dream since I was young but cheating myself in telling there’s no time to do so. I always had an excuse. Beside that I worked on an pilot education project for 12 month which changed my entire way of thinking & style I was working with for decades. AND the most important: It made me thinking about MY life & what’s really important to ME personally. And for the first time my life I did decide to do things only I like. I’m still playing guitar & learning every single day. I’m struggling & fighting, I have good & bad days and so on BUT it makes so much fun to continue and to improve. The funny thing is that when I started I quickly found your YouTube content and started to learn from it which was very difficult at the beginning. And I just found myself to review your video lesson of “Old Love” once again what I’ve tried about 2.5years ago. So there is a long way to go but I finally found my peace in life & would only do things that make sense in my eyes. So that was personal (light) reset. Thank you for your motivation and your hard work to share content with us. And I promise I'll check your new project in the next couple of days. All the best M.

I have been an independent artist all my life so I want to share a few thoughts about my life in general and what I learnt to show what it means to be an independent artist to give others an idea what such life is like. I think the focus is on the word independent which means you don't have any backbone or a net which can catch you when you fall. This gives music and the way you express music a different vibe and you see music and they way you work with music in a total different way. On of my principles in my work as an independent artist always was that you have to touch people's emotions with your art because then people see a value in your work and then they hire you, or want to talk or interact with you and if you work independant you need to accept that you might never be able to reach the very big stages because if you want to you need to have other skills, like networking, socializing and these normal business things. I always found that if I went too deep into that world I lost my abilities to create music which touches the soul of people and so I personally decided to go the other way but as a consequence you need to be better then the others to reach fans just by the quality of your art. This way is the harder way but maybe the more honest way and it serves music most and for me personally this was always first - to serve music and to reach the highest level of emotional musical expression and the life of an independent artist supports this.

yes it does - from my experience you never get anything for free or if it's for free then it has a reason which reveals later. 🙂 Working on it to make it a great concert.

Yes thats an example - but this song will not be something for ethernity. Music where the time stands still is rare and only possible then - at least from my personal experience. From my believe and experience - illness is always a result from unbalance in life - also check the chinese medizin. I myself always healed myself mental in the past 20 years and when I went to a doctor ( on those rare occasions ) it never was of help to me. I will 🙂

I like that statement a lot and really glad that you keep at it through the difficult times. It is so interesting to hear about your experiences as a freelance, independent musician. I think it takes a lot of bravery and patience. I am very glad that you are there as an example of that for us. Hello HP ... For me -Chris Rea was not the one, whom I thought of, was independend and shure he was't. "On the road to Hell"...BUT he HAS reach our hearts! I love his popsongs a bit more then his good blues music! So In one point I have another opinion: That it IS at least POSSIBLE, to really reach people deep inside, without playing the songs wich are not the ultimate music one feels inside! Maybe it's a lot more easy as we think it's true, as a musician with high claims. 😉 To go on a lifelong journey and play music you don`t really like - yes this is sad. About the real reason of an illness I'm a little sceptic all the time - so I add something more... Who REALLY knows, C. Rea's Cancer was the result of his dissatisfaction? CAN be - I read, what the truth becomes - are our thoughts and what works out of the subconsciousness, projectet together with our feelings. This is a modern assumption - how creatin works. So yes: at least we should take account of this. About general music... I find it difficult to fulfill the claim: to be "in complete flow and emotional connected" all the time - over a long peroid of time. As much as I would have like it for myself - to play with this deep feelings - to be in the flow, all the time etc. : EXACT that was, at least for me - what made it even harder - sometimes 😉 OK. That is what a virtuoso is made for! 🤩 What I can read and feel about your peronal story here - it's apparent that you are very true to your heart and that you are steering YOUR TRUE journey you really love. So I'm thankful to have found a musician and musicteacher, that is showing deep insights of his personal aspects and also his very touching grandpiano music! Fly on HP! Thanks for your thoughts - in fact to be completly independent means that you don't need to adapt to anybodies wishes or perceptions. How do we know if an artist which we know is truely independent and serves music and not the buisness ? Lets take Chris Rea as an example because I think thats a very good example. I always loved his songs which made him famous - but when he got cancer a few years ago he revealed that he never wanted to play that music which made him famous and it turned out that he is a blues man from his heart - going a way which was not his made him sick and he payed the price for it. When I compare it with my way I went - I got many offers in my career and I said " no " to nearly all of them or if I said yes I mostly regreted it. After a while I found out that I need to be completly honest with myself and go my way and somehow I also got the support I needed and it worked. Well I never got that famous as many people think I am regarding my musical abilities, but at the end of the day. What is art and music all about ? Music for sure is there to tough the heart of people but you can only do that if you yourself as an acting artist are in complete flow and emotional connected and looking back all songs, projects or ideas which worked out were exactly those. And they were effortless. At the end it's a question what is important in life and not in art - because art is life, it's everything together.

OK more of my thoughts... even if they may stay more general as specific to your last question. And now I want to ask: INDEPENDENCE? What is this? What gives freedom AND security? What are the right working and living condidions? This is different for every men and also for every artist. I mean...from a higher point of view, from other perspectives, everyone recognizes and decides and judges different for himself. and That depends on believes, preferences, competence or habits, talent, needs, views of life. What's good for you can be unwanted for otherones. So there is no best general decision. It stays the own decision and own valuation. Examples: Does an artist who is working in the industry really have a helpful strong backbone? Can be: Yes and No! Are you really free and independend? Can be more or less! Can't an industrie artists touch people's emotions with their art? YES and NO! Can a good organisation and management etc. give the artist the free room: to "work" only the music, without to do the business things? YES! Isn't it hard to be in the industrie too? Shure it is! etc. What is more real - giving the best here ore there- if everyone gives the best in every situation? It's all relative! The more deep you look: It's all the same while it appears in a different shape. Ok... and maybe my view is very methaphysical too. That's whay i didnt want to make a dicussion of the topic and other peoples lifes. It's a very wide topic and at the same time very personal. I allready said : I can follow YOU very well and agree. AND it's the best way because 👍 You did and do it your way! I admire that kind of attitude! For myself....To earn real money with music... Yes sometimes I thought about it, if I could make it possible. But to play over 30 years, allthough I knew and feel inside it's NOT coming easy - as other things, and my health condtion will not let it happen... I believe to live your attitude: the artist has to be VERY TALENTED AND VERY GOOD - and that is an can't be the case 😁 for the average musicians. Yes ...to serve the music. as you say IS a very clear and high statement! Chapaeu! Don't know, but hope that this message makes my view more clear for you now 👁️ Andrea

I was wondering which other possibilities you thought about but my conclusion is the one which developed over years being an independant artist. I always was one. 🙂 And yes it is also very important to be able to make fast and straight desicions and then go for it. Maybe later you find that it did not work out but most artists get stuck because they never finish something. But thats the point you need to be able to finish things and make your art visible for others. 1 out of 10 projects work.

Try to bring more aspects, other sides of view...but fall into thousand possibilities... must come to the conclusion - your statement is very to the point. Yes: I can follow very well and agree. Hey Charley, thats nice to hear. I listened the show myself and I thought it was really entertaining for a possible audience. And yes in fact we only scratched the surface till now. I am also working myself hard at the moment to show more aspects of my music which I never published. And yeah the Blue Jean Blues is an awesome song. I think you can rock that one. You can let other students know in the students club about your practice plan. That section is for the students to interact. Slowly getting some life into this little community we have here. 🙂
