The turnaround is one of the most used elements in jazz music. It appears in jazz blues, in rhythm changes or many Jazz standards in different forms. So what is a turnaround ? it is a 1625 progression which is played mostly in 2 bars. There are several forms available and babe are all called turn around so here are three examples below. Bb7 G7 / C7 F7 Bbmaj7 G7 / C7 F7 Bbmaj7 Gm7 / Cm7 F7 There are different methods to make a solo over such musical form. Some of them are easy, others are more advanced and difficult. In this tutorial I talked about the easy form and that method works over all versions of turnarounds in any situation. The main trick is to use the major pentatonic scale and adding the approach note which is located between the interval 2 and 3 and is so-called flat 3. So first I am going to show you a written guitar which works on a turn around with a walking bass and then show you the major pentatonic with the approach note and then give you some guitar licks and some inspiration how to use that scale over a turn around. At the end of the tutorial I am going to play a version of my own to give you some additional improvisation on how to work out with that method.
