Accoustic Blues Solo

Here you can learn a nice accoustic blues track including some solo ideas which are specially made for accoustic steel string but also every other guitar. The track is taken from the " Whorehouse Blues " by Motorhead. Here you learn the essentials and on soloing I give you some technical advice how to work on fast runs with pentatonics or blues scale.

here you can check out the original track. That one is played with 1/2 step tuned down guitars. So if you want to jam along with your normal tuned guitar please take the Ab minor pentatonic or blues scale.

Arizona Blues

In this set of lessons I'll teach you a short simple original song, "Arizona Blues". I'll introduce the tune to you, then show you how to play the two main parts. Next I'll put the two parts together for you, then get into the hammer-on and bluesy licks. I'll play the song through for you, then finish by explaining a bit of my philosophy behind it.

Fun Guitar

Here is a cool lesson where you can learn the basics of funk guitar, some advanced tips and actually all you need to know about intermediate funk rhythm guitar. Beside this you can learn some very nice dorian licks and get some insight into the use of dorian mode. One main tip is that the difference between minor pentatonic and dorian scale are only 2 notes. So you only need to learn them. Pay close attention to my instructions about this.

Shuffle Blues in E ( SRV style )

The topic of this lesson is a shuffle blues in the key of E in a medium tempo in the SRV style. There are some spezific problems which have to be reviewed. Like the sound, the way of playing and the licks which work best. These are mostly double stop licks and combinations of them with chords, the rhythm guitar and some single note lines. The sound I have used is created with the AXE FX II – a marshall 800 with some delay on it and thats it. You can use any kind of medium distortion on your amp the playing technique makes the difference.

The progression is :

E / A / E / E
A / A / E / E
B / A / E / B

This lesson will give you some easy ideas how you can work with the pentatonic ( all positions ) and some theoretical background to play nice and good sounding melodic rock solo's in the key of Gm using the Gm scale.

To understand this lesson it is very usful that you are able to play ALL pentatonic positons. Here you find all in the key of A http://www.hanspeter...p?showtopic=325 - the numbers displayed on the graphics are the intervals of the scale.

Pentatonic is 1 2 b3 4 5 b7
The minor scale is 1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7

As you can see the differenc are only 2 notes the 2 and the b6 - this is important to understand the whole content of this lesson here and will help you a lot to play more free on the fretboard.

For more understanding of intervals please read this article : http://www.hanspeter...hp?showtopic=27

This is a great lesson where you can learn to play a typical trio blues band setting with drum, bass and guitar. Here the part of the guitar is a bit more demanding then usual since you are the melody and the harmonic instrument in one person. Here a few tricks how you can play great stuff in such setting. You will enjoy it - but take my advice and dont play too many notes - put your attention on your expression and your feeling in your playing then you are on the right way.

Convinced playing

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to show how you can play the guitar and then it did not work the way you wanted or didn't really know what to play to show how you can play guitar. The magic word for this is to be conviced and sure in what you are doing whatever your current playing level is. You can do a great job even if you know only a few licks and a fuew chords. In this lesson I show you some ideas how you can be more secure in your playing. It is now about what to play but about how you play and having the right focus. So thats why there are no tabs here.

Dynamics, Expression and Improvisation on Sologuitar

This is a pretty open lesson where I show you a basic fingerpicking riff with easy chords. You can choose the one I am showing or something similar then try to get into improvisation and into expression and dynamics and improvisation. Since the licks and riffs are not so hard to play the trick is to have the focus on your expression, the way you feel the groove, the riff and the fill ins. There is acutally no way in teaching creativity because it is individual but if you learn to get a connection between you and your guitar and you start to feel the music and you are able to create different types of expression and dynamics you will be able to get into your own way of expression and this is what music is all about. So try to get the basic licks of this lesson and then work on the dynamics, the mood you want to create and just play.

If you want to get more familiar with this kind of picking technique you might check the Mark Knopfler Video.

Bad Blues - Tutorial

If you want to play a blues in the style of the song " Feeling Bad Blues " from the movie Crossroads performed by Ry Cooder then enter this tutorial. It gave the title of this tutial but it stands for a kind of blues playing which you can learn here. You get some ideas to play blues in a rubato style - without a real timing. This gives you all freedom to play blues with full expression and dynamics. So thats why I also talk about sound settings because they are also part of your dynamic expression.

Since SRV has his guitar tuned down to Eb ( half step ) its a bit tricky to teach. If you tune your guitar down you can use the original jamtrack and the tabs as they are displayed. And I show you how to play the original version of the intro at the beginning with these openstring parts.

If you have a normal tuned guitar you can either use the alternate jamtrack to practice the openstring version. I the video I mainly use the alternatve version with a normal tuned guitar. Here you can use the normal jamtrack.

For soloing you can use any kind of standard pentatonic licks but pay close attention to my instrustions about playing with punch. This is what it is all about at least about this solo. The interpretation of SRV is great and the punch and relaxed playing is just awesome but the material he plays is basic stuff.

Here some examples :

but of course you have to know the pentatonics in all positions or at least in position 1 + 2 to play this stuff and then you jump up to the high position.
